Guest Speaker Brendan F.D. Barrett

Brendan F.D. Barrett is a Professor at Osaka University in the Center for the Study of Co*Design. He teaches and undertakes research as part of the Co-creation Design Division. His core areas of expertise include urban transitions, ethical cities, sustainability science, and science/research communication. Previously he was a senior lecturer in the RMIT School of Global, Urban and Social Studies and program manager for the Masters of International Urban Environmental Management, and before that he was a research fellow with the Global Compact Cities Programme, hosted by RMIT. He worked with the United Nations in Japan between 1995 and 2015, with the UN Environment Programme and United Nations University (UNU). While with the UNU, he founded the Media Studio in 2003 where he worked with a group of talented professionals producing award-winning interactive websites, video documentaries and open educational resources. In 2010, he became UNU Head of Communications and oversaw the complete overhaul of the university website, as well as the launch of a new digital publications repository (eSpace) and constituent relationship management system (CiviCRM), and the establishment of a robust presence for the university on Youtube, Facebook and Twitter.
