Guest Speaker Masashi Kawashima Designer

Masashi Kawashima has been the Director of Asia Pacific operations at Niantic, Inc since the company spun out of Google in October 2015. Masa joined Niantic Labs in 2013, when it was a “startup” within Google. As a UX/Visual designer, he was designing Ingress’ visual and user experiences. Masa also contributed to the launch of a new ground-breaking project for mobile devices known as “Pokémon GO”, in which players can search for and capture Pokemon in the real world.

Masa moved to Los Angeles in 2000 and founded his first company shortly after. He joined Google in 2007, where he led the Asia Pacific Webmaster team. Masa became the first Japanese person to design a Google Doodle (Google’s holiday logo). He also led the Crisis Response web team after the Great East Japan Earthquake, which he spoke about it at TED Tohoku. In 2011 he moved to the Google headquarters where he led the Global Consumer Product Web Design Team as a Senior Webmaster.
