Guest Speaker Yasuaki Onoda Urban Designer

Born in Kanazawa, Japan. Professor of the Department of Architecture and Building Science and International Research Institute for Disaster Science, Tohoku University. Doctor of Engineering, First-class Registered Architect. As an Architectural Planner, he created the ground for the masterpieces of architecture in recent Japan; Sendai Mediatheque (Design: Toyo Ito), Yokosuka Museum of Art (Design: Riken Yamamoto), and Ohtaka no Mori elementary and junior high school (Design: Kazuhiro Kojima, Kazuko Akamatsu + CAt). After the Great East Japan Earthquake, he has been contributed many Build Back Better projects in reconstruction sites, as Kamaishi City Reconstruction Director, the Chair of Ishinomaki City Reconstruction Promotion Council, Reconstruction Advisor of Shichigahama Town. In recent years, he has focused on developing the architect selecting process for good architecture, like Odawara Civic Theatre. Works: Kumamoto Art Police Reihoku Community Hall (the Prize of AIJ 2003), Tohoku University Centennial Memorial Hall (Public Building Award 2016) (above, jointly with Hinami Abe).
